The short answer

Export the group chat from WhatsApp as a text file (without media), then drop that .txt file into the free WhatsApp Chat Analyzer. It counts messages per member and ranks the top 10 in a Who texts the most? chart, with each person's share as a percentage. It also shows the group's most active hours, busiest weekdays, top emojis and most used words. The file is read in your browser and is not uploaded.

Step 1: export the group chat

WhatsApp can export a chat as a plain text file. The menu names vary a little between versions:

  • Android: open the group, tap the three-dot menu, then More and Export chat. Choose Without media.
  • iPhone: open the group, tap the group name at the top, scroll down and tap Export chat. Choose Without Media.

Save the file or send it to yourself (for example by email) so you can open it on the device where you will run the analyser. If WhatsApp gives you a .zip, unzip it first. The analyser needs the .txt file inside.

Choosing Without media keeps the file small. Photos, videos and stickers still appear in the text as lines such as <Media omitted>, so they are still counted.

Step 2: run the analyser

  • Open the WhatsApp Chat Analyzer.
  • Drop the .txt file onto the upload area, or click to choose it. Files up to 50 MB are accepted.
  • Wait a moment while it reads every line.
  • If you see No WhatsApp messages found, the file is probably the wrong one or in a format the tool cannot read. The fixes are in WhatsApp Chat Analyzer says no messages found.

    What the results show

    Who texts the most

A bar for each member, sorted by number of messages, with the count and a percentage. The person at the top gets a crown. Only the top 10 senders are listed.

    Summary cards

    • Total Messages across the whole export
    • Media Shared, counted from the "omitted" placeholders
    • Longest Streak, the longest run of consecutive days with at least one message
    • Chat Period, the first and last dates in the file

    Most active hours

A 24-bar chart from midnight to 11 PM. Hover over a bar to see the message count for that hour. This is based on the times in the export, which use the phone's time zone when the chat was exported.

    Busiest days

Message counts for each day of the week, Sunday to Saturday. Useful for spotting whether a work group is busy on weekends or a family group comes alive on Sunday.

Top emojis and most used words

The 10 most used emojis and the 15 most used words. Common filler words in English and Hinglish (such as "the", "and", "hai", "kya", "nahi") and any word of two letters or fewer are ignored, so the list shows the words that actually say something about the group.

How to read the numbers fairly

Message counts are a rough measure of activity, not of who contributes most. Keep these in mind before you share the leaderboard:

    • Each line counts as one message. Someone who sends "ok", "haha" and "see you" as three messages scores three times higher than someone who writes one long paragraph.
    • Media counts as a message. A member who forwards lots of photos or stickers will rank high even if they rarely type.
    • The percentage is out of the top 10. In a group with more than 10 active members, the percentages are each person's share of the top 10 senders' messages, not of the whole group.
    • Deleted messages may still count. If the export contains "This message was deleted" lines, those are counted for the sender.
    • Names come from your phone. People appear as they are saved in your contacts, or as a phone number if they are not. If two people share a contact name on your phone, their messages are merged.
    • Multi-line messages count once. Only the first line of a message carries the sender's name, so later lines are ignored by the counter.

    Settings that affect the result

    Date format

The analyser reads dates as day/month/year, which is the default on phones set to Indian or British English. If your phone uses the US format (month/day/year), the message counts per person are still right, but day-of-week and streak figures can be wrong. To fix it, change your phone's region or date format to day/month/year and export the chat again.

    12-hour or 24-hour time

Both work. Times like 9:15 pm are converted to 21:15 for the hourly chart.

    How much history is included

The export includes the messages that are on the phone you export from. If you joined the group recently, or restored from a backup that did not include older messages, the stats will only cover the period shown under Chat Period.

    Ideas for using the stats

    • Group admins: see whether a handful of people dominate the conversation, or whether announcements land at a time when nobody is active.
    • Family or friends groups: a fun year-end summary, as long as everyone is comfortable with it.
    • Clubs and societies: pick a good time for reminders by checking the most active hours.

Before posting results in the group, remember that the analysis covers what other people wrote. Share the leaderboard, not the full word list, unless the group is happy with it.

    Privacy

The tool reads the export file inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and nothing is stored after you close the page. The exported .txt file itself is a full copy of the conversation, though, so delete it from your downloads or email once you are done.

For a deeper look at word usage in any text, including a chat export, the Word Frequency Counter ranks the top 25 words and shows how often each appears.

    Frequently asked questions

How can I see who sends the most messages in a WhatsApp group?

Export the group chat as a .txt file without media, then open it in a WhatsApp chat analyser. It counts messages per member and ranks the most active senders.

Does the analyser upload my chat?

No. The Lazyblink analyser reads the exported file inside your browser and does not send it to a server.

    Are photos and stickers counted?

Yes. In an export without media they appear as placeholder lines such as Media omitted, and each one counts as a message for the sender and in the Media Shared total.

Why are the day and streak stats wrong?

The analyser reads dates as day/month/year. If your phone exports in US month/day/year format, set it to day/month/year and export again.
