How to Save Your Resume as a PDF (No Blank Pages or Browser Headers)

Turn a browser-built resume into a clean PDF: the print settings to change, how to hide the date and URL, keep colours and avoid a spill-over page.

The short answer

Fill in the Resume Maker, click Preview Resume, then Print / Save PDF. The resume opens in a new window and the print dialog appears. Set the destination to Save as PDF, open More settings, untick Headers and footers, tick Background graphics, and save. If nothing opens, your browser blocked the pop-up; allow it and try again.

Before you print: three things to know

  • Nothing is saved for you. The resume maker keeps your details in the page only while it is open. Reloading or closing the tab brings back the sample resume (Rahul Verma). Finish and save the PDF in one sitting, and keep a copy of your text in a document as well.
  • The PDF is made by your browser. The tool builds a print-ready page; your browser's print dialog turns it into a PDF. That is why the settings below matter.
  • A small credit line is printed at the bottom: "Created with Lazyblink.io — Free Resume Builder". It is part of the page the tool generates.

Step by step in Chrome or Edge

  • In the Resume Maker, pick a template (Classic, Modern, Minimal or Creative), fill in your details and click Preview Resume →.
  • Check the preview, then click 🖨 Print / Save PDF.
  • A new window opens with your resume and the print dialog appears about half a second later.
  • Set Destination to Save as PDF. On Windows you can also pick Microsoft Print to PDF.
  • Set Layout to Portrait and Paper size to A4 (or Letter if you are applying in the US or Canada).
  • Click More settings and untick Headers and footers. This removes the date, page title and web address the browser would otherwise print.
  • In the same section, tick Background graphics so the coloured skill tags and accent colours are kept. Leave Scale on Default unless you need to fit the page (see below).
  • Check the page count shown in the dialog, then click Save and choose a file name.
  • In Firefox and Safari

    • Firefox: choose Save to PDF as the destination. Under More settings, untick Print headers and footers and tick Print backgrounds.
    • Safari (Mac): in the print dialog choose PDF > Save as PDF at the bottom left. Click Show Details and tick Print backgrounds; untick Print headers and footers if it is shown.

    Name the file properly

Recruiters download dozens of files called resume.pdf. Use your name and the role, for example Priya-Sharma-Data-Analyst-Resume.pdf. Avoid spaces at the start, version numbers like final-final-2, and the company name of a different employer.

    Fixing common problems

Nothing happens when I click Print / Save PDF

The tool opens your resume in a new browser window first. If the browser blocks pop-ups, the window never appears and there is no error message. Look for a blocked pop-up icon in the address bar, choose to always allow pop-ups for the site, and click the button again.

The date, URL and page title appear on the PDF

These are added by the browser, not the resume. Untick Headers and footers (Chrome and Edge) or Print headers and footers (Firefox).

The colours and skill tags disappeared

Browsers drop background colours by default when printing. Tick Background graphics or Print backgrounds. The tool's page also asks the browser to keep exact colours, but some browsers still follow the dialog setting.

One line spills onto a second page

A resume that runs to a second page by two lines looks unfinished. Try these in order:

  • Trim the content. Cut the weakest bullet points, shorten the summary to two or three lines, and remove skills nobody will ask about.
  • Reduce the margins in the print dialog (Margins: Narrow or Minimum). The page already has its own inner padding, so the default browser margin adds extra space.
  • Lower the scale slightly, to 90 or 95. Below about 85 the text gets hard to read.
  • Check you have no empty experience block. Every experience entry you added is printed, even if blank, and there is no remove button. If you added one by mistake, fill it or reload and start again.
  • A blank last page appears

This usually means the content ended just past the bottom of the page. Use the same fixes: tighten margins, trim a line or set the page range to 1 if the second page is truly empty.

The PDF text cannot be selected or searched

Choosing Save as PDF keeps the text as real text. If your file behaves like an image, you probably printed to an image-based printer or took a screenshot. Save again with the PDF destination, because many applicant tracking systems read the text of your resume.

Check the PDF before you send it

    • Open it and read it top to bottom once.
    • Click your email and LinkedIn text to make sure they are spelled correctly (they are printed as plain text, not clickable links).
    • Check the file size. A text resume like this is usually small; if you are asked for a size limit, see the guide to compressing a PDF without losing quality.
    • Make sure the contact line fits. The phone, email, city and LinkedIn appear on one row; a very long LinkedIn URL can crowd it, so use the short form, for example linkedin.com/in/yourname.

    What the resume maker includes

    SectionWhat you can enter
HeaderName, job title, phone, email, city, LinkedIn
    Professional summaryA short paragraph
Work experienceCompany, role, duration and achievements (one per line); add as many entries as you need
EducationTwo entries: institution, degree, year and grade
SkillsA comma-separated list, printed as tags

If your resume needs more than two education entries, sections such as projects or certifications, or a photo, you will need to add them in a word processor after exporting your text. For advice on what to write, see how to create a resume that gets noticed. If you also need a marriage biodata rather than a job resume, the Biodata Maker is built for that format.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I save my resume as a PDF from the browser?

Click Print / Save PDF, then in the print dialog choose Save as PDF (or Microsoft Print to PDF on Windows) as the destination instead of a printer, and click Save.

How do I remove the date and website address from the top of the PDF?

Those are the browser's own headers and footers. In Chrome or Edge open More settings in the print dialog and untick Headers and footers before saving.

Why are the colours missing from my resume PDF?

Browsers often skip background colours when printing to save ink. Tick Background graphics under More settings in Chrome or Edge, or Print backgrounds in Firefox.

Why did nothing happen when I clicked Print / Save PDF?

The resume opens in a new window before printing. If your browser blocked the pop-up, nothing appears. Allow pop-ups for the site and click the button again.

Is my resume saved if I close the tab?

No. The resume maker keeps your details only while the page is open. Reloading or closing the tab returns the form to the sample resume, so save the PDF before you leave.
